How we compare VPNs

We compare selected providers by documented feature fit and subscription costs. We clearly distinguish those assessments from hands-on testing.

Existing NordVPN, Surfshark and Private Internet Access wordmarks appear on three parallel comparison sheets. Each asks about total billed today, renewal terms, device allowance, app features and privacy evidence. No rankings, test results or prices are invented.

Define the decision first

We start with a concrete requirement: the number of active devices, the operating system, the routing rule needed or the acceptable upfront payment. This is more useful than assuming every reader needs the same provider.

The initial shortlist covers NordVPN, Surfshark and PIA. It does not represent an exhaustive assessment of the VPN market. We recommend examining a provider when its documented controls fit a stated need, while explaining the qualifications that could change that choice.

Use primary documentation

Feature claims come from official platform and support guides where available. A specific, current setup guide is more useful than a generic marketing check mark. If official sources conflict, we disclose the conflict rather than silently choose the most attractive claim.

For example, PIA’s official pages conflict about iOS app splitting. We label that capability unverified. Its older Mac restriction also differs from newer support instructions, so the relevant article points readers to the current extension workflow.

Compare exact payments

We record the selected product, currency, full initial payment, included months and recurring interval. We calculate equivalents from exact totals rather than reconstruct a bill from a rounded marketing rate. Taxes, localization and affiliate campaign differences are identified where relevant.

An unavailable renewal amount stays unavailable. Surfshark’s exact numeric renewal table was not retrieved for the initial edition, so we link its current table rather than substitute the introductory rate or an older quote.

Separate documentation from test results

The initial reviews are documentation-based assessments. We have not performed independent speed benchmarks, app usability testing, DNS leak testing or streaming access checks for this website. We publish no fabricated ratings, test screenshots or provider performance results.

If a future article includes testing, it should describe the device, operating system, app version, connection, date, procedure and limitations. A provider’s statement or a test on another site will remain attributed evidence rather than a test claimed as our own.

Explain recommendation scope

“Lowest selected initial payment” compares the three quoted offers covered in an article. It does not mean “cheapest VPN anywhere.” “Documented Linux app rules” is a feature claim, not proof of superior speed, security or reliability.

Reviews also explain practical tradeoffs: a longer commitment, a device limit, a platform-specific exclusion or a recurring bill. A reader can then decide which requirement matters most.

Articles show source links and a check date. Offers can change after a check, so the provider’s current checkout governs a purchase. Affiliate links are identified through disclosures and their link attributes. Read the commercial disclosure and editorial policy for the related rules.

For a correction, send the page address, disputed statement and an identifiable source to contact. We do not promise a response time that has not been established.
