NordVPN renewal price: what you pay after the first term

In the US, NordVPN’s 1-year and 2-year plans renew every 12 months at $139.08 for Basic, $219.48 for Complete or $296.28 for Prime, before tax. Basic works out to $11.59 a month at renewal, against $3.49 in its first 27 months.

In the US, NordVPN’s renewal price is $139.08 a year for Basic, $219.48 for Complete and $296.28 for Prime, before sales tax. Those figures come from NordVPN’s Subscription Renewal Prices table, which says it was last updated on 10 June 2026, and they match the renewal lines on NordVPN’s US pricing grid, checked on 13 October 2026. The renewal falls due when the initial term of a 1-year or 2-year plan ends, then every 12 months while auto-renewal stays on.

The jump is large because the introductory price covers only the first term. Basic costs $94.23 upfront for its first 27 months; at renewal, the same plan costs $139.08 for 12.

NordVPN renewal prices by plan

Plan 2-year plan + 3 months, paid upfront 1-year plan, paid upfront Then renews at, every 12 months
Basic $94.23 for 27 months $65.88 $139.08
Complete $121.23 for 27 months $77.88 $219.48
Prime $202.23 for 27 months $113.88 $296.28

All figures are USD before tax, and both long terms renew at the same yearly amount. Three more details from NordVPN’s pricing:

  • Add-ons renew too. The US renewal table lists a dedicated IP at $81.48 a year. NordVPN’s pricing data showed $70.68 instead when it was paired with Prime; the legal table is the more specific source, so confirm the amount at checkout.
  • Older plans have their own rows. The table still lists Plus, a plan the current grid no longer sells. If you’re on it, look up its row rather than using the figures above.
  • Monthly plans have no published renewal figure. The grid says the 1-month plans are “billed every month” at $14.99 (Basic), $19.99 (Complete) or $29.99 (Prime), but NordVPN publishes no separate renewal price for them, so we don’t state one.

The monthly equivalent, before and after renewal

A monthly equivalent is an upfront payment divided by the months it covers. For Basic, $94.23 ÷ 27 = $3.49 in the first term, and $139.08 ÷ 12 = $11.59 at renewal. The other plans work the same way:

Plan First 27 months At renewal Difference
Basic $3.49 $11.59 $8.10 more a month
Complete $4.49 $18.29 $13.80 more a month
Prime $7.49 $24.69 $17.20 more a month

Put another way, one renewal year of Basic costs $44.85 more than its whole 27-month first term ($139.08 − $94.23). Keeping Basic through one renewal costs $233.31 for 39 months, an average of $5.98 a month. On the 1-year plan, the second year costs $73.20 more than the first ($139.08 − $65.88).

Renewal is still cheaper than paying monthly at today’s prices. Twelve months of Basic at $14.99 would be $179.88, which is $40.80 more than the $139.08 renewal. Our NordVPN price guide sets out every plan and term side by side.

When the renewal is charged

On the 2-year plan, the three extra months belong to the first term, so the first renewal comes 27 months after purchase. NordVPN’s grid puts it as “$94.23 for the first 27 months” followed by “Renews at $139.08/year” for Basic. The 1-year plan renews after 12 months. From then on, both renew every 12 months. NordVPN’s offer terms add that yearly renewals are billed in advance, up to 14 days before the renewal date.

The renewal is charged in the currency of your first payment, plus applicable tax. The renewal table also says prices may be subject to A/B testing. A separate promotion can carry its own renewal amount. The renewal sentence in your own checkout summary is the figure to write down.

Did NordVPN raise its prices?

We found no public notice of a 2025 or 2026 price change. There are only two indicators: the renewal table’s 10 June 2026 update date, and checkout data that labels the current US price package as a 10 June 2026 price change. Neither says what changed. NordVPN’s terms say price changes affect only renewals and come with advance notice.

Renewal discounts and prices for existing customers

We found no official NordVPN renewal discount. The introductory price is tied to the first period: NordVPN’s offer terms describe the price “displayed to you as a new customer,” and its subscription terms limit it to the “Initial Subscription Period.”

We also found no official yes or no on whether an existing customer can buy at the introductory price. NordVPN’s help center says returning customers can buy on the pricing page with their existing email “for a renewal to be added,” and that buying while subscribed “will extend your current services with the additional time.” Neither statement says which price that purchase gets. The free trial and the 30-day money-back guarantee apply to first purchases only.

So before you pay for more time, compare two numbers: what the checkout charges today and what it says the plan renews at. The NordVPN offer guide explains the current Basic offer.

How to avoid an unexpected renewal

  1. Note when your initial term ends: 27 months after purchase on the 2-year plan, 12 months on the 1-year plan.
  2. Watch for NordVPN’s reminder. Its subscription terms say it sends one 30 days before the renewal charge on plans longer than one month.
  3. If you don’t want to renew, go to Nord Account → Billing → Cancel → Cancel auto-renewal. Access continues until the end of the paid period.
  4. If you keep the plan, check the current renewal table and allow for tax.

Our cancel and refund guide covers those steps and the records worth keeping.

Refunds on a renewal

NordVPN’s ordinary 30-day money-back guarantee covers an eligible initial purchase, not renewal payments, “unless local laws require otherwise.” Its terms include a pro rata refund clause for certain longer plans bought in Germany, the Netherlands or the UK; US purchases aren’t covered by that clause. For a US subscriber, the 30-day reminder is the practical deadline. Our VPN pricing guide shows how to compare first-term and renewal costs across providers.

If you’re pricing NordVPN before you buy, the current Basic offer shows both numbers together:

NordVPN Basic: $94.23 today for 27 months, then $139.08 every year.

Common questions

How much is NordVPN after the first two years?

In the US, Basic renews at $139.08 a year, Complete at $219.48 and Prime at $296.28, before tax. On the 2-year plan, the first renewal comes after 27 months because the three extra months belong to the first term.

Does NordVPN renew at the price I first paid?

No. The introductory price covers the first term only. Basic’s $94.23 pays for 27 months, and each renewal after that is $139.08 for 12 months.

Can existing customers get NordVPN’s new-customer price?

We found no official yes or no. NordVPN’s help center says returning customers can buy more time with their existing email, which extends the current subscription. Check the total and the renewal line at checkout before paying.

Does NordVPN warn you before it renews?

Its subscription terms say it sends a reminder 30 days before the renewal charge on plans longer than one month. Note the date yourself as well, so a missed message doesn’t turn into a charge.

Is tax included in NordVPN’s renewal price?

No. The amounts on this page are before tax. NordVPN’s US grid says “Sales tax may apply,” and the renewal is charged with applicable tax in the currency of your first payment.
