Yes, NordVPN documents a free trial, but it’s narrower than its 30-day guarantee. NordVPN’s support article, last edited on 17 September 2026, describes a 7-day web trial for new users in 15 countries, including the United States. It applies to selected 1-year and 2-year plans and needs a credit card or PayPal. If you don’t cancel within the 7 days, the plan starts and you pay the price shown when you began the trial. First-time Android users who install from Google Play can get a separate 3-day trial. NordVPN has no free plan, and its 30-day money-back guarantee is a refund promise on paid first purchases, not a trial.
What NordVPN’s 7-day trial covers
NordVPN’s support article sets these conditions:
- New users only: the trial is “available only to new NordVPN users (no prior NordVPN subscription).”
- 15 countries: France, the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, Japan, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Spain, Italy and Poland.
- Selected plans: it “applies to 1-year and 2-year [Prime / Ultimate Max / Ultra / Complete Max] plans.” Of those names, only Prime is on NordVPN’s current US grid. The line doesn’t mention Basic or Complete.
- Payment: a credit card or PayPal. The article says other methods, including Google Pay, UnionPay, Sofort and cryptocurrencies, “will grey out the free-trial option.”
NordVPN’s terms add that “the availability of a Free Trial is not guaranteed” and that it can modify or withdraw the trial for new users at any time without notice. We couldn’t observe the trial in NordVPN’s US checkout, so we can’t confirm which plans show it there today. Before you enter card details, check that the checkout labels the order as a trial.
To look for the trial, open NordVPN’s plans through our offer link (affiliate link), choose an eligible 1-year or 2-year plan and pay by card or PayPal. NordVPN has no separate trial page; its support article describes the trial as an option at checkout.
NordVPN’s own pages also disagree on the country list. Its blog names 13 trial countries, leaving out Japan and Germany, while the support article names 15. We follow the support article because it’s the more specific statement.
The Google Play and App Store trials
On Android, NordVPN describes “a separate 3-day free trial” for first-time users who download the app from Google Play, one per customer. Google Play manages it under its own terms of service. It isn’t available in Bangladesh, India, South Korea or Sri Lanka. NordVPN’s support article and blog both say 3 days, and we found no official source for a 7-day trial on Google Play.
We found no official App Store trial for iPhone, iPad or Mac. NordVPN’s blog says you won’t see the option to start a free trial if you buy through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, which refers to the 7-day web trial.
What you’ll pay when the trial ends
NordVPN’s support article is direct: “Unless you cancel before the 7-day trial ends, your chosen plan will begin automatically, and you’ll pay the price shown when you started the trial.” The amount that counts is the one on your trial checkout.
For reference, Prime is the only plan name from the trial line that appears on NordVPN’s US grid. On 13 October 2026, its US prices before sales tax were:
| Prime term | Price for the first term | Then renews at |
|---|---|---|
| 1-year plan | $113.88 for 12 months | $296.28 a year |
| 2-year plan + 3 extra months | $202.23 for 27 months | $296.28 a year |
If you only need the VPN, compare that with Basic: $94.23 for 27 months, renewing at $139.08 a year. Basic isn’t named in the trial line, so buying it directly relies on the 30-day money-back guarantee rather than a trial. Our NordVPN price guide lists every plan and term.
Free trial vs the 30-day money-back guarantee
| 7-day web trial | 30-day money-back guarantee | |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | Use it first; the plan starts unless you cancel within 7 days | Pay upfront, then ask for a refund within 30 days |
| Who qualifies | New users in the 15 listed countries | First-time customers, on the initial purchase |
| Plans | Selected 1-year and 2-year plans | The plan you bought; renewals aren’t covered |
| Payment | Credit card or PayPal only | Apple, Amazon and retailer purchases use the seller’s refund route |
| How to use it | Cancel before the 7 days end | Contact NordVPN support; App Store refunds go through Apple |
NordVPN calls the guarantee “separate from the trial.” Its refund policy covers the initial purchase, not renewals or repeat purchases after an earlier refund, and its terms add local-law exceptions. The documentation doesn’t say how the trial and the guarantee interact once a trial turns into a paid plan, so ask NordVPN support before counting on a refund after a trial.
How to cancel a NordVPN trial before it charges
NordVPN’s trial article says to cancel before the 7-day trial ends, and we couldn’t observe a US trial. These steps follow NordVPN’s documented route for stopping a subscription:
- Note when you started; the plan begins automatically when the 7 days end.
- Log in to Nord Account and go to Billing → Cancel → Cancel auto-renewal.
- Check that Billing shows auto-renewal as off, and save a screenshot.
A Google Play trial is run by Google Play under its own terms, so manage it there rather than in Nord Account. Our guide to canceling NordVPN and getting a refund covers refunds and app store purchases.
Is there a free version of NordVPN?
No. Every plan on the NordVPN price grids we checked on 13 October 2026 was paid: Basic, Complete and Prime in the US, and Ultra outside it. We found no free tier. If price is the obstacle, our guide to free vs paid VPNs explains the limits free plans usually carry and how a free plan differs from a free trial.
NordVPN Basic: $94.23 today for 27 months, then $139.08 every year.

Common questions
Does NordVPN have a 30-day free trial?
No. The 30 days are a money-back guarantee: you pay upfront and can ask for a refund within 30 days of a first purchase. The free trials NordVPN describes last 7 days on the web and 3 days on Google Play.
Can I get the NordVPN free trial in the US?
NordVPN’s support article lists the United States among the 15 trial countries, for new users paying by card or PayPal. We couldn’t observe the US trial checkout, so confirm the trial label before you pay.
Will NordVPN charge me after the free trial?
Yes, unless you cancel before the 7 days end. You pay the price shown when you started the trial, plus any sales tax. The plan then renews at its renewal price unless you turn off auto-renewal.
Is there a NordVPN free trial on iPhone?
We found no official App Store trial. NordVPN’s blog says the trial option isn’t shown for App Store purchases. If you subscribe through the App Store, NordVPN says refunds go through Apple support.
