Our assessment
Surfshark’s clearest fit is a buyer who wants to cover many active devices without counting simultaneous connections against a numeric cap. Its documented Bypasser controls also make it a candidate for supported Mac app routing and iPhone website exclusions. Those are concrete reasons to consider it, rather than assuming that one VPN is best for every household.
The qualifications matter. iOS website exclusions do not route an entire iPhone app outside the VPN. Linux is absent from the Bypasser platform list. A feature available on one device cannot be treated as a universal promise for every app that shares the subscription.
This is a documentation-based review of features, pricing and policies. We have not run performance benchmarks, streaming access tests, DNS leak tests or app usability testing for The VPN Deal. We therefore give a practical assessment of documented fit instead of an independent speed ranking or a numeric review score.

The Starter quote is $67.23 for the first 27 months before applicable tax, a $2.49 monthly equivalent. It is the smallest full initial payment among the three selected long-term quotes covered here. PIA’s quoted equivalent is lower, but its initial term is longer and its full payment is higher.
The long-term offer renews annually after the introductory term. Surfshark has a separate renewal table, and its billing policy describes localized currencies, taxes and pricing variation. We did not retrieve an exact numeric renewal amount, so we do not assume another year costs twelve times the introductory rate. Read the current renewal line in checkout.

Unlimited connections and supported devices
Surfshark documents unlimited simultaneous connections, with apps for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS and supported TV platforms. Chrome, Firefox and Edge extensions are also listed. The allowance is useful for a household with many active devices, but remains subject to the subscription’s usage terms.
A browser extension covers browser activity within its supported scope; it does not establish that all other apps on the device use a VPN. Consoles and some other devices may need a compatible router or an alternative setup. Check the provider’s current instructions before buying hardware to extend coverage.
An unlimited allowance also does not remove practical limits from a home connection. Every device still shares the available internet capacity. We have not measured Surfshark’s throughput or simultaneous-device performance, so this review cannot promise a particular download rate for your household.
Bypasser on Windows, Android, Mac and iOS
Surfshark calls its split-tunneling feature Bypasser. Current documentation supports app and website rules on Windows, Android and supported macOS devices. The Mac feature requires approval of a system extension, does not support Big Sur, and current setup guidance requires macOS 12 or later.
On iOS, Bypasser excludes websites rather than entire apps. That can help with a specific site that does not work well through the VPN, but it is not a solution for arbitrary per-app routing. Linux is not listed for Bypasser, which is a reason for Linux users to compare PIA’s documented app rules.
Reverse Bypasser routes only selected traffic through the VPN. Documentation distinguishes apps and websites on Android from apps only on Windows. Use the current platform guide for the exact mode you need, and remember that direct traffic lacks the VPN tunnel’s protection even though HTTPS may still encrypt the website connection.
Kill switch and MultiHop
Surfshark documents a kill switch on the main desktop and mobile platforms. Its feature page distinguishes soft protection after an unexpected disconnect from strict protection whenever the VPN is off, including a manual disconnect. The setup guide does not establish that every operating system exposes both as selectable modes.
Check your app’s actual controls before relying on a particular behavior. A network outage, manual disconnect and app exit are separate events. Our kill-switch guide explains why a simple “yes” in a provider table is not enough to describe them.
Dynamic MultiHop uses two VPN-server locations on supported platforms. That differs from PIA’s proxy-based Multi-Hop design. An extra routing hop adds complexity and may affect speed; without independent testing here, we cannot claim that it is faster, necessary for everyone or a guarantee of anonymity.
Refunds and canceling renewal
Surfshark’s policy offers a 30-day guarantee for an eligible initial purchase and excludes recurring payments. Restrictions apply to repeat refunds, payment methods and certain add-on services. Purchases through Apple or Amazon follow those platforms’ procedures, and Google Play handling has its own timing conditions.
For a direct subscription, the cancellation guide uses account → Subscription → Payments → Cancel auto-renewal. Paid access remains available until the current term ends. A refund request goes through support and is a separate action; uninstalling an app does not accomplish either one.
If renewal uncertainty is a major concern, record the recurring amount at purchase and set your own reminder. A promotional countdown says little about the longer-term bill or whether the product fits your devices.
When to shortlist Surfshark
Shortlist it for many simultaneous devices, supported Mac app exclusions or iOS website exclusions. Compare PIA if Linux app routing is essential. Compare NordVPN if its Windows App Kill Switch or particular supported app setup matches your needs more closely.
